Encuentre Su Pasatiempo En El Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center
Cada año, AARP envía un grupo de voluntarios dedicados para ayudar a personas mayores de 60 años a preparar sus impuestos de forma gratuita. ¡Este año ayudaron a más de 600 adultos mayores locales!
Spring has sprung! No better place to find a new hobby than at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center. If you are over 60 and looking for something new, have we got the programs for you. We have daily, weekly, and monthly programs, as well as special events all the time.
For those that love games, we hold a monthly Bingo, on the first Friday of every month at 1pm. It is $3 per card, with cash prizes. Sign up is required in advance. Because of its popularity, we cannot accept walk-ins. Make sure to grab a spot before they are all gone. If Bingo isn’t your thing, but you want to engage your brain, we also have monthly trivia on the second Friday of every month at 1pm. Folks will be split into teams of five and compete for wonderful prizes. Both events are tons of fun!
If lower stakes games are your thing, each week we have a Bridge club and a Mah Jong club that meet to play at our center. The fourth Friday of every month also brings our Corn Hole / Bean Bag Toss game. No experience needed. If you’ve never played, or you are an expert, come play with some new friends. You’ll be happy you did.
If outdoor activities are more your speed, our weekly Pickleball open play for seniors returns to the Rogers Park Pickleball courts Thursday, May 7th from 10am-12pm.
We have a few exciting special events coming up as well. On Thursday, May 14, join us for our first Puzzle Palooza Challenge! This is a jigsaw puzzle contest for all abilities. Grab a team of up to four people and sign up! Or come on your own and we will put you on a team. You will have two hours to put together a 500-piece puzzle with your teammates. The first team to complete the puzzle correctly will win. If no teams complete the puzzle, we will count the leftover pieces and the team with the most complete puzzle will win the challenge. Refreshments will be served, and the winning team will receive a prize. Come join us for some fun!
On Thursday, May 28, come learn about pasta! Join cultural educator Anna Oliva as she presents Pasta 101: Types, Ingredients, and Pairings. This 90-minute presentation combines Italian food culture and history with practical guidance on choosing quality pasta and understanding key ingredients. Space is very limited.
We round the month out with the return of our coffeehouse music series on Friday, May 29. We have partnered with the Danbury Cultural Commission to bring the best live music to our center. Come relax and socialize in an intimate environment as we enjoy coffee and other treats, all while listening to music. This month features the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s Jazz Trio.
