Savor Danbury

I have a confession to make: I’ve seen far too many TikTok videos in the past year and a half. During the early days of the COVID-19 shutdown, when many of us were working from home, TikTok became a quick and easy way to divert attention from the harsh realities of a global pandemic. Now, a year and a half later, the social video platform – much like the aforementioned virus itself – has permeated many of our lives and gone viral.

TikTok videos with the hashtag #TikTokFood have garnered an astonishing 25 billion views globally, so I know I’m not the only one with this obsession. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, that very simple hashtag is influencing the way we cook, eat, and share our collective love of food.

Here in Danbury, we don’t need the social influence of TikTok to inform us of the latest culinary trends or preach to the wonders of sourdough bread. Our community has an abundance of diverse flavors reflected in the foods we eat and the recipes we share with our friends, family, and neighbors.

With that in mind, Danbury Library has launched Savor Danbury: Recipes from Our Vibrant City, a cookbook project celebrating our local community.

Danbury residents hail from all corners of the globe, making it a richly diverse city. The cookbook is intended to highlight that diversity (and flavor!) through recipes submitted by community members, local chefs, and beloved restaurants. From time=honored traditions, or a newly discovered #TikTokFood favorite, the Danbury Library is eager to share your recipes in Savor Danbury!

Now through October 15, community members of all ages can submit their recipes online by visiting https://danburylibrary.org/savor, or in person at the library. Each recipe submitted will be entered for a chance to win a free copy of the completed cookbook and a Danbury Library apron! Savor Danbury: Recipes from Our Vibrant City will be available for checkout at the library and sold by the Friends of the Danbury Library this holiday season.

Beginning in November, Tribuna will have a monthly culinary column from a local Nutrition Consultant who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. This column will feature recipes, cooking and health tips to add some variety and efficiency in your home kitchen!

Consider this your friendly reminder to stop scrolling TikTok, and get cookin’ Danbury!
