New Year: Find Your Next Hobby at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center

New year, new you! Want to try something you’ve never tried before? Do you keep telling yourself, “Next year, I’ll try that”? Well, it is now next year! If you are 60 and older, join us at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center to discover your next hobby.

Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, Broadway Burn Aerobics, and Strength Training all occur on a weekly basis. You can also join our walking club, which walks at the Danbury Fair mall on Mondays and Fridays. If you’d like something even more active, our Pickleball club meets at the Danbury War Memorial Tuesdays from 10am-12pm. Bring your racket and some water and join us for some fun. 

If arts and crafts are your thing, we have a Quilting & Sewing Society that meets every Monday and the Knit & Crochet Club meets on Thursdays. We also have a guided art class on Tuesdays to help you with your own individual projects. On Thursdays, we also have a Woodcarving Club that meets to work on projects at the center. We have a variety of other arts and crafts classes throughout the month. 

In addition to our monthly Bingo and Trivia, we have an array of special events happening throughout January & February. Karaoke will make its return on Monday, January 6. Our brand-new Crossword Puzzle Club starts January 15. Come do a crossword with your friends! Join us for some tips and tricks to sharpen your crossword puzzle skills with crossword puzzle expert and Danbury librarian, Amanda Gilbertie. 

For theater fans, our program coordinator will bring a program on the musicals of composer Stephen Sondheim to the center on Tuesday, January 21. Come and hear some interesting facts and watch video clips of some of the most iconic Broadway musicals of our time. 

In 2025, Maria Xavier, from Edward Jones, will present a series of Lunch & Learn Financial Workshops on the first Thursday of every month. January’s topic is Making Your Money Last. February’s topic will be Making the Most Out of Your Retirement Finances. Maria will bring pizza, and the meal will be followed by a presentation and a Q&A session. 

Whatever your interests are, there is always something for everyone at The Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior. Remember, the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center, located at 10 Elmwood Place in Danbury, is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
