Library Card Sign-Up Month in September at Danbury Library: More than Meets the Eye

Libraries are always evolving to enrich the lives of the communities they serve.

By Shannon Betts

Do you know about everything the Danbury Library offers? Maybe you can list a few well-publicized services, but I’ll bet there’s still a lot to be discovered.

The Library staff know the power of a library card; you can always sign up at the Library, but you’ll probably find us at the Danbury Farmer’s Market and the Downtown Chow-Down too. The fact that September is the official Library Card Sign Up Month means that we can talk about it all month long!

Whether you're looking to upgrade your skills, find valuable information, or connect with fellow readers, those 14 special digits on a library card unlock a world of possibilities! At Danbury Library, you’ll find diverse programs, technology galore, job search assistance, homework help, book clubs, author talks, story times, and a range of cultural events.

Curious about exploring a new hobby or learning a new language? Danbury Library has dozens of hobby exploration classes, including glass painting and toy making for raptors. Yes, you read that right: toy making for raptors.

We also have in-person ESL classes, conversational Spanish classes, and resources like Transparent Language Online to help you master a second (or third?) language on your own.

Want to make the world a better place? The Library informational/activism classes are a space where information meets civic action. We can reinvent food pantries and reduce food insecurity. We can create a sustainable future.

Interested in brushing up your technology skills? We offer classes in Google Workspace apps, Smartphone basics, library apps like Kanopy, and much more.

Starting or growing a small business? We provide reading lists, recommended community partners, and the spaces to nurture that kernel of an idea. Entrepreneurs and business owners should include a stop at the library as part of a regular routine.

Did you know that the Library also offers WiFi hotspots, GoPros and Chromebooks to lend?

There’s truly something for everyone at Danbury Library!

Though you don’t technically need a library card to participate in these programs, why wouldn’t you want access to movies, magazines, ebooks, audiobooks, museum passes, and more? Your new library card unlocks it all. How much does it cost? This is the best part: IT’S FREE!

We’re so confident that you belong here that we’ll even enter you in a raffle to win a $50.00 gift card just for applying. Though you can sign up anytime, this program is limited to September (the time for new beginnings), the official Library Card Sign Up Month.

Getting a library card is easy, and so is the way it enriches your life.
