Gearing Up for Holiday Celebrations
The holiday season is upon us. From Diwali to Thanksgiving and beyond, it’s a time to celebrate! Nowhere better to do so than at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center.
Join us for an exercise class or one of our many social activities. Daily exercise classes to get your blood pumping include the Walking Club, Tai Chi, Chair Yoga, Broadway Burn and our ever-popular Zumba class. As for social activities, we have so many clubs to choose from. Love to sew or quilt? Join our quilting club, which meets every Monday under the guidance of quilting expert Alison Rogers. If knitting or crocheting are more your thing, we have a knit and crochet group that meets every Thursday morning. If reading is your passion, we also have a book club that meets bi-monthly. If you just want to meet new people without the pressure of an activity, visit our sugar hollow café, grab a cup of coffee, and chat with others. We also hold monthly social parties. Come dance to some music or meet up with friends. No matter what, it’s a fun time!
In addition to our regular weekly and daily programming, we have so many special events happening at the center. For November, we have partnered with a handful of community organizations to bring important information to Danbury residents. First, on November 7, we will have the Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA) come and talk about what happens to your trash and what options you have for hazardous waste disposal. On November 12, the Housatonic Habitat for Humanity will present a program on their affordable housing programs. On November 14, we welcome the Ridgefield Visiting Nurses Association to talk about meeting the dementia challenge. Whether you have someone in your life struggling with dementia, or just want more information on the subject, this program is for you.
On the lighter side, we have more fun and games planned for November. Join us as we partner with SYNERGY Homecare for Trivia on Wednesday, November 20. This will be a warmup to the return of monthly trivia in the New Year! Come test your knowledge skills! The following day, November 21, artist Pam Cassidy will lead us in painting a wooden winter welcome sign. Perfect to hang in your home for the coming snowy months.
We will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday, but return on Monday, December 2 with Dr. Darla Shaw’s presentation on the history of Danbury. Shaw, a local historian and storyteller, brings her wonderful brand of knowledge and humor to Elmwood Hall for an engaging presentation. On December 3, back by popular demand, our own Tamires Dasilva, shows off her charcuterie skills in a charcuterie building class, just in time for the holidays.
