Education and Entertainment Opportunities at Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center
Summer may be winding down, but programs at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center continue to educate and entertain daily.
In addition to our regular daily programming, which includes exercise classes, art classes, dance, and more, we have some amazing special programming coming over the next month.
We’ve partnered with the Danbury Library for a few special programs during September. On September 12, Amanda Gilbertie from the library will join us for a class on crossword puzzles. She led a class back in June that was so successful, we are offering a follow up. Even if you attended June’s class, there is so much more to learn about everyone’s favorite word game. The Danbury Library has also begun to offer a “Learn About Your Library” program on the second Friday of every month. Each month they will take a deep dive into one of their offered services. In September, they will speaking about CTLAB, the CT Library for Accessible Books and in October, the focus will be Hoopla, their digital lending program.
On Tuesday, September 17, SYNERY Homecare will be hosting a lunch & learn program about long-term care options. They will discuss home care and assisted living options with representatives from local facilities and agencies. Join us for a very informative program.
We’ve also partnered with the City of Danbury for two very special programs. First, on Thursday September 19, the Deputy Fire Marshall, Heather Anderson, will join us for a talk on keeping your home safe from fire-related emergencies. The following Thursday, September 26, the Department of Health & Housing will join us for a discussion on affordable housing options in the greater Danbury area. We are also fortunate to have them join us again in October for FREE flu shot clinics on October 3 and 16. Check our website closer to those dates for more information.
On Tuesday, September 24, our program coordinator, Matt Austin, will be giving a presentation on the life of puppeteer and visionary Jim Henson. From his beginnings as a puppeteer on the Jimmy Dean Show, to the indelible mark his Muppet creations have left on generations of children and adults, there is so much more to this beloved icon.
We also have fun monthly events, like our Dance and Social Party, happening every third Friday of the month. Join us for dancing, socializing, and refreshments. Come make new friends or spend some time hanging out with old ones! The fourth Friday of every month also brings Corn Hole. Teams of two compete against each other in this exciting bean bag toss game.
