Danbury Senior Center Activities to Kick Off Spring

“In like a lion, out like a lamb,” or so the saying goes.

At the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center, we could not be more excited for the beautiful weather on the horizon. Our upcoming schedule has so many exciting things in store. It’s time to get out of the house and join us for some fun!

In addition to our regular programming (yoga, games, art & more!) we have great special events coming up in March. We kick it off on March 1 with our monthly Bingo. Our wildly popular Bingo happens on the first Friday of the month.  Join us for prizes and some fun, all for just $3 a card. March Bingo is sold out, but please join us for our April bingo on April 5. Registration for Bingo begins the Monday morning following the previous Bingo game (so March 4 for April). We get a very high volume of reservations, so act fast. Give us a call and make your reservation so you don’t miss out!

What better way to kick-off spring than with a flower craft? On March 4, we welcome staff from Wilton Meadows to lead us in making pressed flower lanterns. No experience necessary! For those creative types, we also have a 6-week course starting on March 27 called Memories to Memoir. If you’ve always wanted to get your life story onto paper, join writer Beth Young as she helps you do just that.

March also brings a variety of lifelong learning programs to the center. On March 6, we welcome the Western CT Area Agency on Aging for a presentation on Medicare Scams & Fraud. This presentation will discuss current scams that are targeting older adults as well as what to do if you are a victim. There will be a Q&A to follow the presentation. The Alzheimer’s Association will also be on hand on March 20 to discuss Alzheimer’s and dementia. You’ll learn basic information, signs that you or a loved one may be experiencing symptoms, and what types of treatment and support are available.

For those who like to stay active, our monthly Corn Hole Games continue on the fourth Friday of the month. March also brings us an Intro to Pickleball class. If you have always wondered what Pickleball is or if it’s for you, join us for a low-stakes instructional session on March 27. Our popular Sports Talk group also returns after a hiatus on March 26. Come chat about your favorite teams, current games, or anything sports-related on your mind.

Remember, the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center located at 10 Elmwood Place in Danbury is open Monday-Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Membership is FREE to all those 60+ (regardless of whether you live in Danbury or not). We would love to see you very soon! For more information visit www.danburyseniors.org.
