The Elmwood Center Offers a Variety of Special Programs

In addition to many of our indoor programs here at Elmwood Hall, we’re moving outside for some very special activities.

June is bustin’ out all over, as the Rodgers and Hammerstein tune goes. The beautiful weather is here to stay! At least for a little while. The Danbury Senior Center and its programs for those over 60 are taking full advantage. In addition to many of our indoor programs here at Elmwood Hall, we’re moving outside for some very special activities.

Every Tuesday from 10 am-12 pm, join us at the Rogers Park Pickleball Courts for some pickleball! What is pickleball, you might ask? Pickleball is a paddle sport, similar to Tennis, in which two or four players hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles, over a net. Whether you have never played before or are a pickleball expert, we’d love for you to join us on the court. There is no entry fee, but you must bring your own pickleball paddle, as well as water to keep hydrated, and appropriate attire that you can move in.

During June, we will also be partnering with professional Pickleball Coach Maura Keenan for a series of workshops. Each workshop begins at 10 am, will cost $10, and you must be signed up separately. On June 17, we will offer an Intro to Pickleball Workshop for those who would like to learn the basics of the game. More advanced players may want to check out our Strengthen Your Net Play Workshop, on June 12, focusing on attacking skills, topspin shots, proper partner play, and more. On June 26, Maura will offer a Skills and Drills Workshop, in which she will provide individual coaching on areas you would like to work on.

Beginning Tuesday, June 10, the senior center will be having Food Truck Tuesdays! On select Tuesdays throughout the summer, we will welcome food trucks to our parking lot, offering food for purchase. The June schedule is as follows: June 10 – Greek Style Grill, June 10 – Cousins Maine Lobster, June 24 – The Stacks Mobile. Join us for some food truck fun. There will be a little something for everyone!

What would summer activities be without baseball? On June 17 at 10:30 am, we will welcome members of the Danbury Westerners Baseball Team to the senior center for a meet and greet. They will be on hand to chat with you and answer any questions you may have about professional baseball life. Those who attend will receive free tickets to a Westerners game.

If you are looking for more physical outdoor activities, join our Walking Club every Monday and Friday at 9 am. Starting from the Danbury Senior Center, this group takes a walk through and around downtown Danbury. The Walking Club walks at a slow pace, but they do about three miles during each walk. All are welcome. Walking is the easiest and safest exercise. Grab your sneakers and join!

Whatever your interest is, there is always something for everyone at The Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center. Remember, the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center, located at 10 Elmwood Place in Danbury, is open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm. Membership is FREE to all those 60+ (regardless of whether you live in Danbury or not). We would love to see you very soon! For more information, visit www.danburyseniors.org.
