The I-84 Danbury Project is a Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) initiative to reduce congestion and improve the mobility of people and goods along the I-84 corridor in Greater Danbury. The project is currently in the Concept Study phase. Here, the I-84 Danbury Project team is developing and analyzing numerous concepts to learn if each can meet the project's goals and can improve some or all the corridor between Interchanges 1-8.

The concepts are created by analyzing data and creating designs that meet the Purpose and Need of the project with input from the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) and the public. The team anticipates the development of over 20 concepts that will be mixed and matched to create a series of recommendations for the I-84 Danbury Corridor. Several concepts are explained and displayed in detail on the project website at www.i84danbury.com/concepts/. In addition, an overview of the first three concepts is available in the Summer 2021 Newsletter, which is posted on the website.

As new concepts are developed, they will be added to the project website, announced on the project social media accounts, and communicated to the email distribution list via e-bulletin. Please visit the sites regularly and/or provide your email address on the project website to stay up to date on the latest concept information.

On another note, the I-84 Danbury Project team is excited to again host a project table and provide information to the public at various events/locations in the Danbury community. This regular in-person presence and ability to talk with residents and travelers went on hiatus at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples of such events the team has attended include the Danbury Pop-up & Play, the CityCenter Farmer’s Market and pop-ups at local markets, and the Danbury Museum. Members of the community have typically provided great feedback at these types of events. The team is finally back! The team recently attended the Danbury Pop-up & Play event on August 6 and is eager to pick them back up again! The project team plans to announce when they will be out and about on social media.

Do you have ideas, comments, or questions about the concepts or the project? It’s critical to hear from the citizens of Greater Danbury about the improvements that will help you to travel to work, appointments, school, and other destinations in the area. This will allow the team to develop and move the concepts forward that best help people get where they need to go.
