Fresh Food, Healthy Living, and Community Connections at the Danbury Farmers Market
The Danbury Farmers Market continues to draw crowds toward downtown each Saturday
The Danbury Farmers Market continues to draw crowds toward downtown each Saturday, and this past weekend was no exception. Hundreds of residents and visitors gathered at the CityCenter Green to shop for fresh local foods, enjoy live entertainment, participate in health and wellness activities, and spend time with family and friends at one of Danbury's most popular community events.
Open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October 17, the market transforms the CityCenter Green, at 1 Ives Street, into a vibrant outdoor marketplace featuring more than 15 Connecticut farmers, food producers, and artisans. Visitors can browse an ever-changing selection of seasonal fruits and vegetables, farm-fresh eggs, flowers, plants, baked goods, jams, local wines, handcrafted products, and specialty foods—all while supporting local agriculture and small businesses.
One of the market's biggest attractions is its welcoming atmosphere. Live music fills the Green each week, children's activities keep younger visitors entertained, and community organizations provide educational resources and information. It is a place where shopping becomes an enjoyable Saturday morning outing for the entire family.
Among the most popular weekly attractions are the free nutrition classes and live cooking demonstrations presented by UConn Extension. Led by nutrition educators Heather Peracchio and Juliana Restrepo Marin, the bilingual sessions showcase simple, healthy recipes prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients available at the market. Offered at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., these demonstrations consistently draw enthusiastic crowds eager to learn practical cooking tips, discover new flavors, and explore nutritious ways to prepare locally grown produce.
The market also makes healthy food more accessible by accepting SNAP/EBT, as well as benefits through the WIC and Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Programs, helping more families and older adults purchase fresh Connecticut-grown products.
Visitors appreciate the convenience as much as the experience. Complimentary two-hour parking is available at the Patriot Garage, located at 21 Delay Street, with a validation code provided by market volunteers. And because the market operates rain or shine, shopping continues even during inclement weather, with vendors relocating to Level 4 of the Patriot Garage when necessary.
Whether you're looking for farm-fresh ingredients, handcrafted products, healthy cooking ideas, or simply a pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning, the Danbury Farmers Market offers something for everyone. With several weeks remaining in the season, there's still plenty of time to experience one of downtown Danbury's most cherished traditions while supporting the local farmers and small businesses that help keep our community thriving.
