Find your Hobby and Fun at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center

Whatever your interests or needs are, there is always something for everyone at The Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center!
Spring has sprung! There’s no better place to find a new hobby than at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center. If you are over 60 and looking for something new to engage in, we have the programs for you. We have daily, weekly, and monthly programs, as well as special events all the time.
For those who love games, we hold a monthly Bingo on the first Friday of every month at 1 pm. It is $3 a card with cash prizes. Sign up is required in advance. Because of its popularity, we cannot accept walk-ins. Make sure to grab a spot before they are all gone. If Bingo isn’t your thing, but you want to engage your brain, we also have monthly trivia on the second Friday of every month at 1 pm. Folks will be split into teams of five and compete for wonderful prizes. Both events are tons of fun!
If lower-stakes games are your thing, we have a Bridge club and a Mah Jongg club that meet to play at our center each week. The fourth Friday of every month also brings our Corn Hole / Bean Bag Toss game. No experience is needed. Whether you’ve never played or you are an expert, come play with some new friends. You’ll be happy you did.
If outdoor activities are more your speed, our weekly Pickleball open play for seniors returns to the Rogers Park Pickleball courts on Tuesday, May 6, from 10 am-12 pm. Pickleball coach Maura Keenan will also be offering workshops on various Pickleball topics on Thursdays from 10 am -11am throughout May and June. Call the senior center for more information.
We have a few exciting special events coming up as well. On Thursday, May 15 at 1 pm, Western Connecticut State University Professor and American Theater Wing member Don Gagnon will join us for a behind the scenes look at Broadway’s biggest night, the Tony Awards.
The following week, we will welcome some men in uniform to lead into Memorial Day. First, on Tuesday, May 20, Veteran and military historian Art Gottlieb will join us for a talk on the History of the Vietnam War. The next day, May 21, the Danbury Police Department will join us to discuss avoiding scams. They will dig into what scams may be out there and how you and your loved ones can avoid falling victim to them.
We round the month out with some fun. On Friday, May 30, join us for some Karaoke! Come show off your singing skills (or lack thereof) and have some fun! Join us as we sing some of our favorite songs! No pressure to sing, just come and watch.
