Attend a Public Workshop to Discuss Potential Main St (Route 53) & Downs St/North St (Route 37) Intersection Improvements

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host an in-person public workshop to discuss potential improvements to the intersection of Main Street (Route 53), Downs Street, and North Street (Route 37).

The workshop is open to the public and will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at St. Joseph Church Hall, 376 Main St in Danbury.

This workshop will focus on addressing congestion and mobility challenges at the intersection of Main, Downs, and North Streets, as recommended by the I-84 Danbury Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) Study. The broader goal of the I-84 Danbury Study is to enhance mobility and alleviate congestion from the New York State line to Exit 8 in Danbury. Expected to conclude in Fall 2024, the PEL Study also proposes several non-highway and local improvements that will improve overall travel in the region.

This workshop will specifically address the study's proposal to improve sight lines, alleviate congestion, and enhance traffic operations and safety at the Main St/Downs St/ North St intersection, situated just outside downtown Danbury.

Workshop Overview

The workshop will present data on existing conditions, including traffic volumes and roadway deficiencies, that justify potential improvements at this intersection. It will provide an opportunity for neighborhood residents, property owners, community leaders, advocates, business owners, and employees to inform the study team about the intersection’s potential redesign. For more details on the workshop, visit i84danbury.com/upcoming-meetings.

The event will follow an open house format, allowing attendees to visit anytime between 6:00 and 8:00 PM. Informational boards will be available, and study team members will be present to discuss current challenges and possible solutions. Public feedback will inform future design decisions aimed at improving safety, mobility, and operation at this intersection.
