Nuvance Health has created a COVID Recovery Program dedicated to treating patients with persistent symptoms after COVID-19 infection.
The road to recovery for some COVID-19 patients may be longer than others, with a wide range of symptoms that can last for weeks or months. The long-term effects of COVID-19 can be debilitating and prevent people from getting back to their normal routine.
Since the outbreak, Nuvance Health has been at the forefront of COVID-19 treatment in New York and in Connecticut. While the long-term effects of COVID-19 remain uncertain, the Nuvance Health COVID Recovery Program (CRP) can help patients with diagnosis and treatment options to maximize function and to reduce symptoms post-COVID-19 infection.
“By creating a cohesive team of specialists across Nuvance Health, we can seamlessly help patients navigate the care they need, and ultimately, improve function and hasten recovery,” said Dr. Christopher Lehrach, Chief Physician Executive at Nuvance Health.
What are long-term effects of COVID-19?
- Muscle weakness and fatigue
- Memory loss or “brain fog”
- Difficulty breathing or chest pain
- Balance issues and trouble walking
- Weakness or numbness in arms and legs
- Pain, body aches or joint pain
- Headache
- Stroke
- Mood changes
- Abnormal heart rhythms
- Loss of taste and smell
- Rash
- Hair loss
How the COVID Recovery Program Can Help
According to Nuvance, There is still much to learn about COVID-19 and its long-term potential impact. Their CRP team includes clinical leaders in their specialties and stays up-to-date on the latest studies and treatment recommendations. It works closely coordinating care across multiple medical specialties, your primary care physician, and various therapists (if indicated) to diagnose the underlying causes of ongoing symptoms.
Because the program is part of a healthcare system, patients will receive post COVID-19 care by accessing all the diagnostic services they may need, including blood draws, cardiac testing, MRIs, pulmonary testing, integrative medicine, and more.
Am I Eligible for the COVID Recovery Program?
You must be 18 or older. You must be 4 weeks or longer from the onset of your first symptom and still have symptoms. If you are not at least 4 weeks post-infection, please speak to your primary care provider or if you don’t have one, search for a provider close to you.
What to Expect
The COVID-19 Recovery Program provides coordinated care for patients experiencing persistent symptoms. The first step is a telehealth visit with one of Nuvance Health’s CRP physicians to review symptoms, medical history, and more – as well as to address questions patients have and to provide support.
Because of the complexity of symptoms that can affect many organs and body systems, patients may need to see one or more specialists. Nuvance program’s physicians can determine what referrals are needed, all while coordinating your care throughout your recovery.
The program’s care team will work closely with patients and specialists to create a collaborative and customized plan of care. The program’s goal is to provide support and to minimize COVID complications, promote healing, support recovery, and maximize function.
If you don’t have a primary care physician, we will help establish care with one of our caring clinicians.
If you or a loved one need medical support after recovering from COVID-19, contact Nuvance to schedule a telehealth visit and receive a customized treatment plan.
