Charitable Organizations Assist Needy Children During the Back-to-School Season

As we approach the end of the summer and the start of the back-to-school season, with the rising cost of utilities and basic needs, working families face increasing financial hardship while preparing their children for the upcoming school year.

As a parent, I sympathize with those struggling to make ends meet while doing their best to ensure their children are satisfied with their educational needs, whose cost could exceed one hundred dollars per child.

Thankfully, in Greater Danbury, several charitable organizations have made it their mission to assist families in need and make children's back-to-school experience exciting.

For over three decades, The United Way of Western Connecticut's "Back-to-School Drive" has been a beacon of hope for families in Greater Danbury. It has provided backpacks full of school essentials and gift cards, ensuring that every child can start the school year with a smile.

The service provided by the United Way is made possible by generous donations from residents and organizations, and it is currently seeking contributions from the public.

The Bill Curtis Harambee Center is another beacon of hope in the Greater Danbury area when it comes to helping with school supply needs.

Located on West Street in Danbury, the Harambee Center is a home away from home that provides a nurturing environment and a safe space for needy children in the area.

Both organizations' efforts would not be possible without donations and contributions from members of the public.

Supplies needed include:

-Pens

-Elementary School Backpacks

-Colored Pencils

-Rectangular Erasers

-Notebooks

-Glue Sticks

-24-Pack Crayola Crayons

-No. 2 Pencils

-Magic Markers

-Scissors
