The intense heat on the afternoon of June 25 did not stop parents from leaving work early and gathering to celebrate the “drive thru” graduation of their little ones.

Helping children smoothly transition into kindergarten is the Action Early Learning Center (AELC) core mission, which was shaken but not interrupted by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The 2021 graduation was very special for Action Early Learning Center, as we stayed open for the neediest children in the community with onsite and online options for families during this unprecedented and challenging year,” explained AELC’s director, Mini Santosh.

Two graduations were held in the same week – a virtual graduation for 35 students who stayed connected virtually through online classes, and an in-person event for 55 students who were attending school in-person during this challenging year.

“It was a beautiful celebration of our beautiful journey with our kiddos, the youngest students of our community, who will be entering the public school system this fall,” said Santosh.
For director Santosh and her school staff, early learning is paramount during the crucial developmental years: “Children develop attitudes about education that remain with them for the rest of their lives, and high-quality early childhood education programs and highly effective, passionate teachers or care providers, will not only promote young children’s development and academic achievement but will also foster a lifelong passion for learning.”

The Action Early Learning Center contributes to young children’s acquisition of literacy, numeracy, creative thinking, problem solving, and motor skills, as well as several other skills and the knowledge to become a life-long learner.

Every graduating student went home with a school backpack filled with supplies, generously donated by Dr. Nandita Nanda.

“As our kiddos always say, ‘Kindergarten, here we come!!!’” concluded Santosh.
